This project, in the heart of Southwark, replaces two commercial buildings with a high-end residential block of 53 apartments and commercial space at street level. Eight of the apartments will be for rent to local people and two for shared ownership.
The building is designed as a series of blocks that step down in height from the street, reducing the overall bulk whilst tying in with the scale and rhythm of the local context. The modulated plan allows good daylighting into the apartments, all of which have a dual aspect and their own private balcony and each block has a shared, landscaped, roof terrace for its residents.
Since 2015 when DMA initially developed this project, Blackfriars Road has undergone significant change and DMA have recently been appointed to review proposals in light of the new context. The data below relates to the current approved scheme.
