As part of the UK wide British Science Week initiative to encourage students to get involved in STEM subjects, Westminster City Council invited us to work with a school – the King Solomon Academy in Marylebone – to show how important STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) are in architecture. Samantha and Max developed a brief that challenged a group of 10 students who came to the office, ranging from years 8 to 10, to design an office space for a particular profession. The students were given an introduction to what architects do as well as how technology is used within the office. They were given a short tutorial in using Revit and were able to model their designs and then try them out in Virtual Reality. They came up with some great ideas and hopefully were inspired by the possibilities of technology and design in the process.
