DMA is proud of having a great gender balance in the office so it is a pleasure to celebrate the pioneering achievements of Ethel Charles (pictured left) as part of the RIBA’s #EthelDay on 5th July – a day of international social media campaigning to recognise the achievements of women in architecture.
Ethel Charles became the first woman architect to join the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), in 1898. However, Ethel’s path to becoming an architect and member of the RIBA was far from straight forward. For more information see here.
Throughout the day, we are tweeting about the female architects we admire and why. To get involved in the campaign, click here and follow our Twitter feed here.
