As part of our role as an RIBA Architecture Ambassador, we held a series of workshops for a group of school children at Lord’s Cricket Ground in May. These involved the children working in teams to develop a character inspired by sport using mood boards as well as playing lots of cricket and even designing their own cricket bat! They explored Lord’s, looking at the spaces though an architectural lens and then put forward proposals to redesign one of the existing stands. The children were from nearby Barrow Primary School, where we have previously designed a community room. The design sessions took place in the newly refurbished Media Centre, and the children came up with some great ideas, using sketches and some fantastic models to communicate their ideas.

The initiative is a collaboration between ourselves, the RIBA’s Schools Programme, FutureProofCIC/GoSketch and the Marylebone Cricket Club, and the idea is to try and give a sense of the scope and excitement that a career in our industry can bring, hopefully inspiring them and giving them a taste of both cricket and architecture.
