Project summary

One of three infill sites won through Westminster City Council’s procurement framework, this project builds on an underused car park site, adjacent to a 1960s slab block within the Torridon House Estate, to provide 21 new, affordable homes.

Instead of a dense, single block, we provided the same density in two terraces that reinforce the street edge and respond to the scale and density of the surrounding buildings, as well as being offset to provide clear separation from the adjacent school. An apartment block and a lower mews terrace of family houses give a nice mix of homes with a new landscaped ‘street’ between the buildings, so providing a communal, amenity space additional to the project brief. Modern mansard roofs help to reduce the apparent mass whilst maximising capacity and also reference the traditional housing nearby, as do the brick colours and patterns.
