Building work has started to convert a group of historic barns, stables and other agricultural buildings at Anstey Hall in Trumpington, on the edge of Cambridge, into eight luxury residences with a further four new homes on the site. Some of the previously derelict, timber-framed buildings date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are Grade II listed.
David Miller Architects are working closely with their new client, Hill, developers and house builders, to combine modern technology, including full BIM, with the conservation and refurbishment of these one-off, irregular, and in some cases quite dilapidated, buildings. It is not the first time that DMA have used their technical expertise to realise this type of complex project. In 2008, they developed a pool building with Ushida Findlay at Lower Farm Barns in the Chilterns, where curved glass walls and an undulating thatched roof link a Grade II listed farmhouse and barn. The practice are also currently responsible for the comprehensive remodelling and updating of Future System’s Stirling Prize-winning Media Centre at Lords Cricket Ground, David having been project architect for the original building.
The Anstey Hall development will be complete by March 2017. To see the model click here
