Planning Approval for Torridon Infill, Westminster

Following on from the success of planning permission for 23 homes at Queens Park Court, we are pleased to announce that approval has also been granted for our proposal for 21 new, affordable homes on the Torridon House Estate in Maida Vale. The project is part of Westminster City Council’s Infills Programme, which focuses on making the best use of Westminster’s existing land to provide much-needed, affordable housing, and is one of a series of three infill sites won through their procurement framework.

The scheme replaces an underused car park next to a 1960s slab block and, instead of providing another large, single block, we provide the same density in two terraces that respond to the scale and density of the surrounding buildings. An apartment block and a lower mews terrace of family houses give a nice mix of homes with a new landscaped ‘street’ between the buildings, so providing a communal, amenity space additional to the project brief. The terraces reinforce the street edges and are offset from each other to give a clear separation from the adjacent school. Modern mansard roofs help to reduce the apparent mass whilst maximising capacity and also reference the traditional housing nearby, as do the brick colours and patterns.
