We were really delighted to hear about the achievements of two of our work placement students who, further to completing their week long work experience programme at DMA, have applied for and landed places at two top universities.
Ciara came to us in November 2018 and, as well as impressing us with her positive attitude and enthusiasm, has obviously gone on to impress in her interview for the University of Cambridge, where she is now studying Architecture.
Zaid came to us last September through the Sir Simon Milton Westminster University Technical College, where DMA are also part of the Employers Alliance. Zaid did really well in his work experience and in his studies and went on to be offered an unconditional place at Kingston, which he has taken up and started his first year of Architecture. Zaid says,
“The work I did at David Miller has been a wonderful experience and has honestly helped me understand my course much more.”
At the end of the DMA work experience week, the students take home a design report showing the project that they have designed and modelled using digital design techniques. Both students have told us that being able to take along this design report played a really important part in their interviews and in them getting their offers. Ciara comments,
“I have used the Design and Access Statement I made at DMA so many times, including at my Cambridge interview to explain to the interviewees how I would approach the brief they gave me. Without that physical representation of what I had learnt at DMA, I don’t think I would’ve done as well in that aspect of my interview.”
Congratulations to both Ciara and Zaid! We are very pleased to have been able to help support them through our work experience programme, which has also been incredibly fruitful for us in attracting a diverse range of talent into our own team.
We are now looking at creating a DMA work experience alumni network so that we can keep in touch with students more easily and continue to support these young people as they develop their careers in Architecture and the Built Environment.
