Project summary

The project adapts a consented commercial scheme to create new specialist lab space for Kadans Science Partner in King’s Cross. Part of the area’s emerging ‘Knowledge Quarter’, this first scheme of four establishes Kadans’ presence and provides dedicated and flexible life-science and technology space for London’s fast growing innovation and R&D market. Designed as a multi-tenanted building, it includes shared reception, meeting spaces and coffee shop to spark collaboration and innovation.

Working within the constraints of the approved scheme, the laboratory spaces are designed to allow easy and quick tenant customisation and can be adapted to accommodate both large, established companies and smaller start-ups, as well as changes to research programmes and equipment. Along with the shared communal spaces, the ground floor houses manufacturing space, including small scale biotech/life science production space with clean rooms. The design and materials of the offsite manufactured façade reflect the area’s industrial heritage with brick, stone, weathered steel and street-level shutters.
