Project summary
Westminster City Council plans to become a ‘retrofit-first’ city with a new planning policy aiming to help the borough reach net zero by 2040.
As part of this, DMA are working with Westminster’s Retrofit Taskforce to pilot an approach for their homes, many of which are in historic buildings and conservation areas. This includes creating Heritage Partnership Agreements for a number of listed estates to agree a long term strategy with the Planners and Historic England. By creating methods and typical details for each estate, this will allow individual buildings to be retrofitted and upgraded in-line with decarbonisation targets in a more streamlined manner over a period of 15 years. Current estates include The Arts and Crafts influenced Millbank Estate and the 1930s Grosvenor Estate, designed by Edwin Lutyens.
