Project summary
The re-fresh of Arup’s office of 7,400 sqm of space over six floors demanded we deliver a flexible and efficient working environment, encouraging agile working, cross-team collaboration and regular innovation.
Based on current design thinking about the benefits of varied and tailored workspaces, we created four distinct task-based collaboration zones across the floorplate. These were replicated on each of the six floors to help the users recognise and feel comfortable with the new layouts, thereby speeding up adoption of new ways of working. Each area is delineated with different lighting, acoustic treatments, furnishings, colours and finishes. For example in the library spaces, reduced light levels are supplemented by desk task lighting to create a more relaxing environment for independent learning. As the re-fresh took place while the building was occupied, we developed a phased approach to ensure minimum disruption for the day-to-day activities of the organisation.
